Englishtown, New Jersey
Wilkerson preparing
for what's to come
Englishtown,
pre-race: With just a few days between races, the teams
don't have much time to prepare for this weekend's 35th
Annual K&N Filters Supernationals at Old Bridge Township
Raceway Park. But the time constraints are not an issue
for Springfield, Ill. native, Tim Wilkerson. Wilkerson
has been readying the Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet Monte
Carlo for the upcoming group of races as he was competing
in the past few races.
Wilkerson has been
using the last few races to prepare the Levi, Ray & Shoup
Funny Car for the hot weather events that are yet to come.
The hot, humid summer weather is a
concern to the teams, because it produces different racing
conditions than what they have been used to so far this season.
"We've been trying to learn the new set-up we've put
in the car, during the last couple of races," explained
Wilkerson. "We really think that this set-up is going
to be the secret for what's ahead of us. We've already looked
at the data from our Sunday run in Columbus and we think
we've learned what we needed to learn for the upcoming races.
Since Sunday was the only day the sun was out, we learned
what we need to do when the track is hot. Englishtown is
historically a good track, but now that it's the middle of
June, it could be hot. Then it won't be worth a darn. But
that's okay because it's what we've been preparing for the
last few weeks."
